In the basement of one of the oldest buildings in the center of Tashkent, scientists from the National University of Uzbekistan discovered a treasure. Information about this appeared in early 2019.

According to archaeologists, the contents of the treasure were hidden about 80 years ago. Its cost, according to preliminary estimates, can exceed a million dollars.

Archaeologists have found rare works of art, gold and silver coins, dishes, all kinds of antiquities, paintings, icons and items made of precious metals.

Among the items found are exhibits from the 1918 collection of the Tashkent Palace of Prince Romanov, objects that once belonged to nobles and scholars who came to Tashkent in the 20s of the last century from Europe and St. Petersburg, victims of Stalinist repressions, and missing items from the house General Jurabek.

The old building was built in 1870, and under its basement, as it turned out, there was another hidden room. The entrance to it was closed all the time and only the excavations carried out here helped to find it.

The contents of the treasure were partly transported to the museum, partly transferred to scientists from Germany and Poland for restoration in special laboratories.
