Work has been completed on the restoration of a helmet found during the excavation of the burial place of a warrior from Picenum. 7th century grave BC e. was explored in 2018, it was located on the site of a necropolis in the historical region of Piceni, which in the III century. BC e. The Romans included in the Republic. Many discoveries were made here, one of the most interesting items was a bronze helmet fragmented into fragments. Some of the pieces were crushed, others were so small that it took a long time to put them back together. In 2021, more than a dozen artifacts from the burial were exhibited to the general public at the Corinaldo Art Gallery, while work on the reconstruction of the helmet was still ongoing. Visitors were shown only a few of the largest fragments, laying them on a base in order to approximately convey the original form.

The restoration was carried out by teachers and students as part of a postgraduate program at the University of Bologna. A helmet with a collar and brim consisted of several large bronze plates connected to each other. It is assumed that the object was made by Etruscan or Greek craftsmen who served the elite in Picenum. In addition to the helmet, archaeologists found rings and several dozen ceramic vessels, an iron chariot and other items in the grave. No human remains have been preserved.

The name of this area was given by the Romans. In general, the region was economically developed, and historians still do not know for what reasons the region fell into decline. When the Romans came here, part of the population was taken out, the rest of the population was given Roman citizenship without the right to vote. The military leader Gnaeus Pompey Strabo and his son, the consul Gnaeus Pompey Magnus, were born in Picenum. The first significant excavations were carried out here in the 19th century.
