February 24, 1466 in Bruges (Belgium) took place the first of the famous lotteries, organized by the widow of the Flemish painter Jan van Eyck.

1582 - Pope Gregory XIII with his bullet Inter gravissimas announced the reformation of the calendar and the introduction of the Gregorian calendar, which is used today in most countries of the planet.
