A German from the town of Bremerferde left an unusual legacy to his children: 1.2 million coins in denominations of 1 and 2 pfenig. In 2002, after the transition of Germany to the euro, these coins were withdrawn from circulation.

A man has been collecting coins for over 30 years as a truck driver. He put them in bags for freezing food.

To take the inheritance to the bank, the heirs had to hire a truck, because the weight of the coins was almost 2.5 tons.

One of the bank employees was engaged in counting the coins, while at the same time doing current work. He spent about 2-3 hours a day counting coins, finally ending only after 6 months.

In the end, instead of 1.2 million coins, the heirs received 8,000 euros.

Pfennig out of circulation in Germany in 2002 with the introduction of the euro, but they can still be exchanged at the rate of 1 euro - 1,96 dychmark.
