Near the river Don found an ancient mound

In the Rostov region, archaeologists have studied two and a half dozen graves, the oldest of which belongs to the Eneolithic period. In total, in this area (between the rivers Don and Kagalnik) there are more than 400 mounds, some of them have already been studied in detail. The purpose of the excavations is to create a holistic view of what was the culture of the people who lived in this area.

Among the objects of research deserves special attention mound height of about 1 meter. A complex mound structure was found inside the mound. During the Eneolithic period there is a burial ground with several burials. Then a mound was built, surrounded by a moat to protect against evil spirits.

Inside the burial found the remains of a man. Nearby are several other graves, which preserved the remains of a woman with a child, as well as a woman who, in all likelihood, died during childbirth. The age of the oldest burial is 5 thousand years, it was organized before the creation of the mound. In addition to the remains, a machined arrowhead made of silicon was found in it. It is believed that such tips were left as a guide to the other world.
