In the ancient city of Laodicea, which is located in southern Turkey, an ancient artifact was found – a sundial that shows the seasons, months and hours. The product is made of marble, decorated with a pattern in the form of foliage and contains the names of time in Greek. The item is badly damaged: some of the material is erased, and there is no gnomon that should cast a shadow.

Laodicea is an ancient Greek city built in 261 BC in Asia Minor. The settlement was founded by king Antiochus II Theos and named after his wife Laodice I. Three centuries later, the city came under Roman control. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Laodicea became part of Byzantium, then was captured by the Turks. Today, only ruins remain, which are being explored by archaeologists.
