Remains of an old ship found off the coast of Mexico

Searches of the sea floor off the coast of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo have yielded significant results – the remains of an ancient ship that sank more than 200 years ago. The discovery was reported by representatives of the National Institute of anthropology and history of Mexico. The ship was probably damaged in a collision with a reef. Scientists believe that the team tried to avoid shipwreck to the last, as evidenced by the lowered anchor. Now the long chain still encircles the reef.

Researchers have not yet identified the remains, and the ship is now provisionally named "Manuel Polanco" in honor of the fisherman who first discovered it. This is not his first discovery: in the 60s and 70s, Polanco reported to the authorities about the wreckage of other ships. Part of the hull of the "Manuel Polanco" was badly damaged and had time to rot, more or less preserved the gun and anchor.
