In the Hungarian city of Zalaegerszeg, archaeologists who are studying a construction site for a future car track have discovered an ancient female figure. The statuette, aged 6.5 thousand years, was named Venus of Egerszeg. Previously, artifacts have been found in this area – excavations before the upcoming construction have been underway for three years, and since then, pieces of ceramic objects and stone tools from the time of the Lengyel culture have been unearthed.

Among all the finds, this figure is recognized as the most beautiful. It is very well preserved and contains elaborate details. Many other similar idols were broken into small fragments, probably during a rite unknown to historians. All products will be shown in a virtual exhibition, which will be shown on the website of the Museum of Göcsej this year.
