Archaeologists have carefully studied a section of one of the Norwegian mountains, Jotunheimen, from which a layer of ice has descended. Here they found 68 arrows and other items that ancient people used during hunting. The oldest artifacts are about 6 thousand years old: these are bones and antlers of deer, as well as preserved sticks used to scare off animals.

Now similar finds are becoming more common, as with the global increase in temperature, ice floes around the world are melting, opening up previously unexplored places. It is worth noting that archaeologists have long noticed the potential of this site, so in order to avoid looting, they kept its location a secret. It is surprising that the artifacts belong to different historical periods, in particular, they could have appeared in the warm periods of IV-II thousand BC or in the early middle Ages, VIII-X centuries ad.

The so-called ice spots, under which the secrets of interest to historians are hidden, are very hostile areas for scientists, participants in the excavations. The location of the arrows shows how fast the ice was moving. This data, as well as information about the influence of wind and the movement of meltwater, will help to carry out excavations in such conditions more effectively in the future.
