Gold coin "Oranta", 125 hryvnia, 1996

Oranta is depicted in full height with her hands raised to the level of her face and her palms turned towards the viewer. Orants were depicted in the IX–XIII centuries in monumental painting and on icons of Byzantium and Ancient Russia. In particular, the figure of Our Lady of Oranta is the main mosaic of the central asp of the church of St. Sophia of Kiev.
