January 15, 1892 in the student newspaper "Triangle" College of the city of Springfield, Massachusetts, physical education teacher James Naismith published 13 rules of the game, which he invented a month earlier for the sake of entertainment.

Without treating her as a serious sport, with Naismith’s efforts, however, basketball has become one of the most popular games on the east coast of the United States over the decade.

In the winter of 1891, due to the very cold weather in New England, all sports had to be held in a fairly small room. This caused dissatisfaction of students and constant conflicts with many of them.

By order of the school’s director, Luther Galik, Naismith was tasked with coming up with a collective game within two weeks to distract students from doing the same thing.

Having the experience of sports games, James Naismith decided to base the ball game, but in order to prevent physical contact between the players, he invented something completely new.

He tied two baskets of fruit at opposite ends of the hall high above his head and divided the students into two teams. They competed in the number of hits in them with an ordinary soccer ball.

The first game of basketball was played in December 1891 and passed by unusual rules - in each of the teams there were 9 players each who had no right to move with the ball, but only threw it at each other or threw it in the basket with both hands.

According to the recollections of Naismith himself, the first game did not arouse much enthusiasm, the players did not listen to him, they constantly ignored the rules, trying to kick the ball with their feet and take it away from their opponents by force. She ended in a fight and a few injured.

However, over time, the new ball game became quite popular on the college campus. The controversial points of the rules were settled and on January 15, 1892 in the form of "13 rules of the game of Dr. Naismith" were published in the student newspaper "Triangle".
