The origins of the traditional national clothes of Ukrainians begin with ancient Slavic clothes. And if at first the clothing style of all the Slavs was similar, then over time, features characteristic of each nation began to appear.

The folk costume of Ukrainians is very diverse. This is due to the climate and ethnic characteristics of a particular region. So, for example, significant differences in the details of the costume are present among the inhabitants of the Carpathians, Transnistria and Polissya. This is due to the influence of the culture of the Slavic peoples living in the neighborhood.

The characteristic features of the Ukrainian costume are the conciseness of the lines, complex embroidery in bright colors, original accessories and the use of natural materials.

The folk costume of Ukrainians, in comparison with other Slavic outfits, is the brightest and most festive. But the saturation of color and the originality of the form do not make it defiant. Both the female and male image looks harmonious. In addition to the spectacular appearance, the men's suit is characterized by comfort and convenience. One of the main details of a men's suit is bloomers with loose legs. For everyday wear, the balls were made from ordinary cloth and canvas, for a festive exit - from silk brought from campaigns. Mostly wide bag-like trousers were worn by Sich Cossacks. Hutsuls from Western Ukraine wore skinny trousers.

The embroidered shirt was the main item of men from any region. The product, created from a rough linen, had a cutout or an embroidered collar. The collar was tied with a special braid. The sash (a belt for tying a shirt and bloomers) was used not only for convenience, but also served as a talisman. Ukrainian men used jackets, scrolls or zhupans as outerwear.

Shirts were the main element of women's wardrobe. Products with wide sleeves were worn by women every day. The upper part of the shirt was made of soft and comfortable to wear fabric. The lower one is from a coarser one. To create a dodilny (holiday version), women used a single piece of white linen. the eagle, cuffs and hem were decorated with rich embroidery.

Young girls tied their shirts with colorful ribbons and belts of bright colors. To cover the lower part of the body, married women tucked their shirts into skirts, which were divided into 3 types: dergi, spares, and ploughs.

On their feet, ordinary people put on wrinkled shoes - leather shoes, the size of which was regulated with a braid. Women from noble families flaunted in expensive boots with wide tops.
