On January 21, 1952, Italian scientists made a forecast regarding the sustainability of the main architectural symbol of the city of Pisa - the Leaning Tower. They said the structure would fall in 2151. In the same year, they began work to strengthen the structure of the tower to prevent its fall.

The construction of the bell tower of the cathedral on Wonderland Square began on August 9, 1173. At that time, Pisa was one of the richest cities in Europe. Architect Bonanno Pisano raised the first floor 11 meters high and noticed that the bell tower deviated from the vertical by four centimeters. A thin foundation was poured on the soft ground above the old riverbed. Construction work has been suspended for 95 years.

In 1278, after the construction of the 7th floor, construction was again stopped. Deviation from the vertical was more than a meter. In 1370 all construction work was completed. The Leaning Tower of Pisa was declared an architectural masterpiece. The city began to make money on visitors. But the tower continued to lean.

In 1934, Benito Mussolini decided that the leaning Tower of Pisa was an unfortunate symbol of Italy. The architects tried to level the tower. This did not save the situation.

Thousands of proposals were sent from all over the world to the Conservation Conservation Competition. Approved a joint project of Italian architects. They proposed to strengthen the structure from the inside with the help of cables, counterweights and pouring additional concrete supports. $ 30 million was allocated for the project, and the tower was closed for visits.

The work was carried out at night, so that during the day tourists could admire the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Money from ticket sales went in full to pay for the renovation. The roll of the tower was reduced by half a degree. Deviation at the top is 4.5 m.
