In the early 70s of the XX century, the Hôtel du Lac was built in Tunis-a hotel designed by the Italian architect Raffaele Contigiani. The design is markedly different from the traditional Arab and European style – it has become a symbol of modernism in Tunisia. Its main feature is its similarity to the tracked Transporter from the movie "Star wars".

The building was built on 190 reinforced concrete piles installed at a depth of 60 m. The ten-floor structure is a single long block with large Windows. The top floor is twice as long as the first, and the interior reflects the taste of the 70s. In 1990, the hotel was privatized, and in 2000, due to its low popularity, it was closed. In 2013, the building was purchased by LAFICO, which offered to demolish it and build a new hotel tower here.
