Most often they were aluminum caps with a colored enamel advertising inscription on the curb. Advertising thimbles with inscriptions were made of plastic (first from celluloid, then from Bakelite) and from brass. Moreover, celluloid advertising thimbles were issued in all probability before the others, possibly since the end of the XIX century.

Thimbles of silver were advertised mainly by jewelers themselves, for example, one London jeweler gave to all who bought the wedding rings a silver thimble with an engraved inscription with a wish of luck.

Silver thimbles with the names of resorts were made in the UK in the first half of the XX century specifically for tourists, with some stretch of them, too, can be considered promotional.

Later, thimble came from porcelain with pictures - among them logos of various large and small manufacturers. And manufacturers not only typically women's goods, such as sewing accessories or food for housewives, but also considered to be men's goods: beer and cars.

In Europe and America, thimbles with advertising to all known (and not so) companies are produced in whole series, this is one of the interesting sections of the thimble collection.
