A series of publications on the numismatics of the USSR ends and today we will talk about one of the most interesting and popular areas. This is collecting with an investment focus - commemorative and commemorative coins made of precious or bank metals.

Traditionally, the illustration of the story will be accompanied by coins displayed on Violiti. And if earlier numismatic artifacts were published in chronological order, this time, due to the investment attractiveness of this direction, the story will begin with the most valuable metal today - palladium.

The USSR was one of the first to start issuing palladium coins. This is due to the very high share of the USSR (and now Russia) in world palladium production. 14 types of coins were issued, united in four series: "Russian Ballet", "1000th Anniversary of the Baptism of Rus", "500th Anniversary of the United Russian State", "250th Anniversary of the Discovery of Russian America". The coins were issued in denominations of 25 rubles (1 ounce), 10 rubles (1/2 ounce) and 5 rubles (1/4 ounce, respectively).

Moving on to the base metal of the platinum group and the former leader among banking metals, platinum. Platinum and palladium were swapped due to the cost of demand from the auto industry. According to the estimates of stock exchange metal experts, due to the development of the production of electric vehicles, the demand for palladium will fall. And by the end of the next decade, metals will switch places again.

The current underestimation of platinum creates excellent long-term investment opportunities. But back to the Soviet platinum coins. All platinum coins in the USSR were issued in denominations of 150 rubles with a net weight of half an ounce. The USSR was among the first here too, having issued a series of five coins for the 1980 Olympics.
