It is well known that Violiti is a recognized leader in the numismatics of the Bosporan Kingdom. And it is Violiti that will give you the opportunity to collect a collection of coins of this ancient state located on the territory of our country.

Bosporus coins were produced from 530 BC. to 343 AD, that is, almost 880 years. They covered the entire period of classical antiquity, from the period before the beginning of the Greco-Persian wars and up to the period of the dynasty of Constantine the Great in the Roman Empire.

Within the framework of a short note, we cannot even superficially illuminate the whole variety of coins of the Bosporus, we will show some interesting specimens, including those sold on Violiti.

We would like to present to you a recently sold for 113,000 hryvnia silver tridrachm, minted in the capital of the kingdom - the city of Panticapaeum in 294-284 BC. The obverse of the coin features the head of a beardless Satyr in a wreath to the left. On the reverse ΠΑΝ. Bull's head to the left. During the reign of King Spartok III, 303-283 BC e. from the Spartokid dynasty, the royal power of the dynasty was completely formalized. The Bosporus led an active grain trade and maintained allied relations with Athens.

Another Bosporus coin sold on Violiti last season, which will be discussed, is the gold stater 3-2 years. BC. The weight of the coin is 7.95 grams. The obverse of the coin features the head of the Roman Emperor Augustus, turned to the left. On the reverse is the Head of Agrippa to the right, to the left there is a monogram ΔΥΜ, under it there is a "dot"

The coin was sold for 222 222 hryvnia. As can be seen from the coin during this period, the Bosporan kingdom falls into complete dependence on Rome. A detailed description of the coin and its image can be found in our video.

The latest coin from today's collection is a masterpiece that would adorn any museum. Gold stater Panticapaeum, minted 314-304 BC more than 9 grams. And the amount of 570,003 hryvnia for which the coin was sold does not seem so great when looking at this beautiful coin. On the obverse there is a satyr's head, on the reverse, a griffin and an ear.
